Former NHL center Nick Bonino has decided to end his playing career after spending the 2024-25 season with HC Olimpija Ljubljana in Slovenia and will return to the NHL as an assistant coach with the Penguins, as announced on Wednesday. Bonino, who had a 16-season pro career including two memorable years with Pittsburgh during their back-to-back Stanley Cup victories in 2016 and 2017, will be the first assistant named to new head coach Dan Muse‘s staff. He concludes his NHL career with a scoring line of 159-199–358 in 868 games and an estimated $30.69MM in career earnings.
