The Buss family is selling a majority stake in the Los Angeles Lakers to Dodgers owner Mark Walter for $10 billion due to financial pressures in competing with private equity owners. The Buss family will retain 15% ownership, allowing Jeanie Buss to remain as governor. Walter, who has a history of willingness to invest, aims to enhance the team’s resources, particularly in areas like scouting, while acknowledging the Lakers’ rich history of success, including 11 NBA championships and notable players like Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James.
