The Forsyth County Commission has approved agreements for a $3-billion project to construct an NHL-ready arena, enabling Vernon Krause, CEO of Krause Sports and Entertainment, to pursue an NHL expansion franchise in the Atlanta area. Krause expressed optimism about discussing expansion with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, noting that Atlanta’s past failures with two relocated franchises do not impact the current potential for a new team, as the city’s sports culture has evolved. The project, located over 40 miles outside Atlanta, will only proceed if an expansion franchise is awarded.
