The Red Sox have selected the contract of right-hander Brian Van Belle, replacing fellow righty Robert Stock, who has been designated for assignment. Stock, 35, struggled in his recent outing, facing six batters and retiring only two with a 10.13 ERA in two appearances this year, while Van Belle, 28, has excelled in Triple-A with a 2.29 ERA. Van Belle, making his major league debut, will provide the bullpen with a fresh arm after a taxing game against the Yankees.
