Jim Marshall, the former NFL ironman and long-time captain of the Minnesota Vikings, passed away at 87 following a lengthy hospitalization. Known for his record of starting 270 consecutive regular-season games from 1961-79, Marshall was part of the “Purple People Eaters” defensive line and helped the Vikings reach four Super Bowls in the 1970s. His legacy includes the infamous “wrong way run” in 1964, where he mistakenly returned a fumble into his own end zone, but he is remembered for his impressive career and the respect he earned from fans.
