Reliever Nick Anderson has signed a minor league deal with the Rockies after triggering an opt-out from his contract with the Cardinals, where he posted a 6.20 ERA in 17 appearances for their Triple-A team in Memphis. The 34-year-old previously pitched in the majors with the Royals, recording a 4.04 ERA in 35 2/3 innings last season, and has had stints with the Dodgers and Orioles without a major league opportunity. Colorado’s bullpen, while having a serviceable 4.29 ERA, ranks last in MLB with an 18.9% strikeout rate, highlighting the need for Anderson’s experience.
