Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred explained his decision to reinstate Pete Rose and other deceased players from the permanently ineligible list, citing that it aligns with the original agreement made in 1989. Manfred emphasized that Rose is part of baseball’s history and that the ineligible list should not apply posthumously. This decision may allow Rose to appear on Hall of Fame ballots starting in December 2027, as he was previously banned for betting on baseball while managing the Reds, despite being the all-time hits leader with 4,256 hits.
