The Royals have released Nelson Velázquez, as announced by their Triple-A affiliate in Omaha, while activating Cavan Biggio, who accepted a minor league assignment after being optioned. Velázquez, acquired in a 2023 trade with the Cubs, initially showed promise with 14 home runs in his first 40 games but struggled to maintain performance, finishing the season with a .200/.274/.366 batting line and high strikeout rates. He has continued to underperform in the minors this year, hitting .202/.298/.377 and will likely seek another minor league opportunity.
