The Chicago Blackhawks are set to announce Lightning assistant Jeff Blashill as their next head coach, following a search that prominently featured him and David Carle, who chose to remain in college hockey. Blashill, who previously coached the Red Wings with a 204-261-72 record, has potential for greater success with the Blackhawks, who are in the later stages of their rebuild and have substantial cap space for free agency. He will succeed interim coach Anders Sorensen and will work with a promising roster that includes young talents like Connor Bedard and Spencer Knight.
