The A’s have designated Rule 5 pick Noah Murdock for assignment, recalling righty Elvis Alvarado from Triple-A Las Vegas to fill his bullpen spot, reducing their roster to 39. Murdock, who had a 2.22 ERA in the minors, struggled in his 14 big league appearances, allowing 25 runs in 17.1 innings with a high walk rate. Alvarado, making his MLB debut, has performed well in Triple-A, striking out 22 batters in 15.2 innings while averaging 99 MPH on his fastball.
