MLB Power Rankings: Picking baseball’s top 10 rotations entering the 2025 season

Power Rankings Central is ranking the top 10 starting rotations in baseball, emphasizing the importance of having a dynamic ace and depth. The Pittsburgh Pirates rotation, led by Paul Skenes, is highlighted for its potential. The Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers also have strong rotations, featuring players like Tarik Skubal, Jack Flaherty, and Jacob deGrom. The Boston Red Sox rotation has a mix of veterans and young talent, with players like Tyler Mahle and Nathan Eovaldi standing out. Overall, there is a lot of upside in these rotations, with the potential for them to outperform their rankings. Buehler was a frontline starter from 2018-2021, finishing as high as fourth in Cy Young voting. However, he struggled after returning from Tommy John surgery, posting a -1.3 WAR and a 5.38 ERA in the regular season. Despite this, he performed well in the playoffs, winning Game 3 of the World Series and saving the clinching Game 5. Giolito also has three strong seasons as a starter. The Red Sox may have four frontline starters, with the Diamondbacks also boasting a strong rotation. The Braves are projected to have a strong rotation, but there are uncertainties. The Yankees have added Max Fried to replace Nestor Cortes and possibly Marcus Stroman. The Mariners were third in rotation WAR and first in ERA last season, but T-Mobile Park’s pitcher-friendly environment may skew their numbers. Zack Wheeler is considered by some to be the only true ace in baseball currently. Aaron Nola, Cristopher Sánchez, and Ranger Suárez have shown ace potential. The Philadelphia Phillies have a strong rotation with Jesús Luzardo as the No. 5 starter, showcasing ace-caliber potential. The team also boasts Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, and Tyler Glasnow as potential aces, along with talented options like Taijuan Walker. With depth from Roki Sasaki, Shohei Ohtani, Tony Gonsolin, Dustin May, Clayton Kershaw, and Bobby Miller, the Phillies have a wealth of top-tier pitching talent.
