India’s Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill led a strong performance, adding 96 runs at a rapid pace to bring India within 40 runs of New Zealand’s first-innings total of 235, with Gill scoring an unbeaten 70 and Pant contributing a quick 60. Despite early chances missed by New Zealand fielders, Pant’s attacking play and Gill’s steady approach helped India close the gap, before Pant was dismissed lbw by Ish Sodhi. Ravindra Jadeja joined Gill to guide India to lunch with a 15-run partnership, as a stuck Spidercam forced an early break in play.
